For those who don’t know, John suffered a stroke Monday night, and since then it’s been an absolute whirlwind. John has been diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia). In a perfect world, it’s a very treatable form of leukemia, and the goal is to get him into remission. Unfortunately, because he also suffered a brain bleed, the doctors were unable to treat him as aggressively as they normally would. The brain bleed has made everything much more complicated. They could not perform surgery because his platelet count is too low, making surgery far too dangerous. Instead, they have had to let the bleed heal on its own while monitoring it very closely. He has been getting CT scans every four hours to make sure the brain bleed isn’t getting worse. We finally received a little bit of encouraging news. The doctors feel the brain bleed is now stable enough to move forward with the more aggressive chemotherapy he needs to fight the leukemia. Amber is by his side and spending nights at the hospital so he isn't alone. We know this is going to be a long road with many difficult days ahead, but we’re holding onto every bit of hope we can.
