So my epilepsy journey started over 8 years ago when I experienced my first seizure in the spring of 2017. It was a Tonic-Clonic seizure and it happened while I was driving. Thought it was just a fluke and really didn't think much about it or if I would ever have a second seizure. And, well, it turns out, it was just a matter of time until the second seizure presented itself. It did so on February 19, 2025. Thankfully this time I wasn't driving, but was at dinner. Woke up at the hospital yet again. Confused. Disoriented. Inside of my mouth hurting. Elbows bruised up. I ended up taking this seizure more serious than the first one. Starting down the medical road of trying to find some answers is a bit daunting. In the midst of traveling down this road while not being able to drive......you guessed it, seizure number 3 presented itself on May 27, 2025. Yet, another major Tonic-Clonic seizure. This time it happened on the way to go fishing........woke up in the hospital again. After the third seizure I accepted the fact that I will have to take some medication to prevent any further seizures and so that maybe one day, I'll be able to drive again. Still chugging along this medical road to finding answers. Now, I'm just a little medicated. I ended up with a great joint neuro team from the VA Hospital and Vanderbilt Hospital here in Nashville. I eventually did an EEG and a MRI of my brain. Turns out not only am I full of semi-useful facts, but I've also been growing a 'lesion' at the right temporo-occipital junction of the brain, or the back right side. It is approximately 3cm in length. After discussions with my neuro team and others, we decided to do a full removal surgery of the lesion. Send the lesion off for testing to determine what it actually is and see if any further treatment will be needed or not. This seemed like the best approach going forward. It will be an approximately a 6 hour surgery followed by a few day stay at the hospital in ICU and 6 weeks of recovery or until released from the surgeon. I am very thankful for all the support and help so far in my journey.
