Story
Harland was diagnosed in-utero at 25 weeks with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Harland was born with a rare, severe heart condition called HLHS that affects only 1-2 babies out of 10,000. These babies are lovingly referred to as "blue babies". At only 8 days old, this little fighter endured his 1st of 3 required open heart surgeries. At just shy of 6 months old, Harland had his second open heart surgery. Without the necessary treatment, the life expectancy for an infant with HLHS is a few days to a few weeks at most. With surgical treatment, the survival rate to age 5 is 72%, after which the survival rate for people reaching the age of 18 is approximately 90%. The oldest person to survive HLHS is in their 30s. Harland gets his excellent medical treatment from his amazing team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Florida. They all communicate with us 24/7 about anything we need for Harland. We are so grateful for all of their help this far!
