She fought with every cell in her being until the last moment, was cancer free, and she made sure to laugh and smile through it all. Michaella will be lovingly remembered by her parents Steve and Kerri (Maliszewski) Barton; her sister Sarah (Bill) Lodewyk; her niece Isabelle; her grandmother Dolores Maliszewski; her aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Barton and Maliszewski families; and numerous friends. Michaella was preceded in death by her grandparents Jack and Naomi Barton, and Frank Maliszewski. She was a graduate of Northview High School Class of 2016. Michaella was a graduate of Western Michigan University with her degree in theater and dance. She will be remembered for her humor, her creativity and curiosity, her work ethic, her passion, and her silliness. Upon graduating from Western Michigan University, she was offered an amazing opportunity to create curriculum and teach at Interlochen Center for the Arts. This is where she realized that her true calling was teaching movement and choreography to convey a story. The arts were Michaella’s tool to make change in the world and that’s what she did. She enjoyed time with friends and family, being creative with poetry, music, and dance, good food, traveling, and being challenged with creative projects of all types. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday November 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Alphonsus Church, where her family will receive visitors one hour before the Mass. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Her family will receive visitors Tuesday November 21, 2023, from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers East Mortuary, 937 Michigan St. NE where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 PM.
