Help Surround Kristin, Mike & Baby Maverick with Love and Any Support That You Can Some stories simply don’t seem fair. Kristin and her husband, Mike, were overjoyed to welcome their beautiful son, Maverick Rose Fend, into the world on July 16. But just 12 hours after bringing their newborn home, Kristin was rushed to the emergency room with severe back pain caused by a kidney bleed and blood clots. During a CT scan, doctors discovered suspicious findings on her left lung. As more testing was completed, they received the heartbreaking news that Kristin’s breast cancer has returned. Instead of spending these precious first weeks simply soaking in newborn snuggles and celebrating their growing family, Kristin and Mike are now navigating appointments, tests, pathology results, and preparing for another fight, which she will do like the Warrior that she is. As Kristin so beautifully shared, “Joy and grief can exist simultaneously.” Their greatest joy—the arrival of sweet baby Maverick—is now intertwined with an unimaginable challenge. I was so lucky to work with Kristin for years and continue to stay in touch with her because anyone who knows Kristin knows her incredible strength, bright light, and the love she pours into everyone around her. She has faced difficult battles before with unwavering courage, and now she is preparing to do it again, all while embracing the beautiful role of being a brand-new momma. During this beautiful season of becoming parents our hope is to surround Kristin, Mike, and baby Maverick with love, encouragement, and support so they can focus on what matters most: spending time together as a new family, and kicking cancer’s butt for the second time.
