On July 16th, after several visits to the pediatrician for a persistent fever, we received news that completely turned our world upside down—Kieran has B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It was an unimaginable shock, but we’ve been deeply comforted by the love, support, and kindness from our family and friends. We truly feel held by our community right now. We’re incredibly grateful to be at Connecticut Children’s, where the doctors, nurses, and entire care team have been nothing short of amazing. Kieran is in great hands, and that gives us strength as we begin this journey. We officially started treatment on July 18th, it was a big and emotional day: Kieran had surgery to place his port, check his spinal fluid, and begin chemotherapy with his first dose administered directly into his spine. Everything went smoothly, and we received the encouraging news that—for now—the cancer appears to be only in the bone marrow and not the spinal fluid. Kieran is now in the induction phase of treatment, which will last about 29 days in the hospital. We’re hopeful that side effects will be minimal, though we know there will be challenging days ahead. Still, we’re taking things one step at a time and staying strong as a family. We’ll be using CaringBridge as our main way to share updates moving forward. We’ve received so many thoughtful messages already—while we may not be able to reply to each one, please know we see them, and they mean the world to us. Please continue to keep Kieran, Finn, Sean, and Katie in your thoughts, prayers, or however you send love. This is hard, but we’re holding onto hope and leaning on each other every step of the way.
If you would like to drop off any drawings from your kids or small toys/activities for Kieran or Finn you can leave them at Jane or Kristy's house and we will make sure they get to the Hospital! If it is easier to purchase a gift card directly from the source they can be sent to [email protected] Kieran is on a low fat diet so when making meals please avoid red meat, cheese, & butter.
