Story

On April 17, 2026, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to undergo a double mastectomy. It will be followed by a period of recovery, possible treatment, and additional surgeries for reconstruction. For those of you that know me, you know me as a wife to my wonderful husband Walter, mother to 4 boys, 3 of them that are still home, and grandma to the most perfect grandbabies and soon official mother in law to the best daughter I could have prayed for. You also might know me as the kind of person who loves to share Jesus, homeschooling my children, thrifting, raising chickens and loving a good cup of coffee. I am also busy bee with my hands full of home projects, never wanting to burden others and never one to ask for help for myself. Its a simple life - but a beautiful life that my husband and I have created by the grace of God. The concept of "being still" as the Lord has reminded me many times is truly difficult, but I know that in order to recover and do all the things I love, I need to allow myself time to recover from surgery. Over the next several months, my family could truly use the support of family, friends, church, and community. The most immediate and ongoing need is meals for the family, whether they are home cooked meals or restaurant delivery / takeout. I would be so grateful for nourishing meals (and/or snacks) as a tangible expression of care. My recovery advises that I have a high protein diet for healing, and as my sons are in their near teens, most of their meals are already home based and high protein. That said, truly any meal or gesture of support is meaningful and appreciated. We’re aiming to have meals three to four times a week for the next few months for drop off. Please see the Care Calendar below to sign up. Cancer is not only taxing on the body physically, but also emotionally, spiritually and even financially. In addition to meals, there are other ways to help—prayer, sending bible verses, or just messaging us with a kind word. My doctor informed me that I will need a very quiet, low-stimulation recovery period right after surgery, so I’m asking for no visitors at first and meals can be delivered to my husband Walter. It would help me rest and heal faster. Once I’m feeling more like myself I'd be happy to coordinate visitors. Thank you SO MUCH for loving and supporting me and my family.
