On Monday, January 3, Thomas was seriously injured in a car accident in South Boulder. Bystanders took measures that saved his life. Unfortunately, Thomas lost both of his legs but is otherwise healthy and doing well. Nelson and Thomas face some big life changes, and everyone is pulling together to help them in the coming days, weeks, and months. UPDATE: As of the afternoon of January 12, Thomas is being moved to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado. There he will have daily physical therapy to adapt to new ways of getting around. Once he is settled, he will share information about whether and when he can accept visitors. What is needed now: Nelson loves getting the food deliveries because this is one thing he doesn't have to worry about! As of January 12, he has asked that we put the food deliveries on hold for a while so that he can figure out his daily schedule. We have set up a GoFundMe site for donations to help Nelson and Thomas during this time (link to that site in the right hand column). You can also purchase gift cards through this site. Nelson will receive them in his colorado.edu email account. Please respect Nelson and Thomas' need to focus on recovery right now and limit phone calls and text messages. It is an emotional time and it can be overwhelming to manage all the information and recovery. They both have expressed how much they love you all and appreciate your support. We will post updates on this page as they are available.
