In late September 2025, our 3yo daughter, Elena, had what seemed like simple dental irritation. A dentist visit, antibiotics, and a referral to oral surgery felt routine in our otherwise happy, healthy girl — until new symptoms appeared. Bruising spread around her eyes, and she became lethargic and sore. On the morning of September 27, an urgent trip to the pediatrician led us straight to Connecticut Children’s ER, where bloodwork and imaging from a quick-thinking ER attending revealed what no parent wants to hear: neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. We’re heartbroken but grateful it was caught when it was. Still, we’re facing a long road of treatment, inpatient stays, and uncertainty.
