Time with Becky

Coeur d’Alene, ID

Story

For more than 22 years, Becky has been the heart of our family. She is a devoted wife, an incredible mother to our four children, a special-education teacher, and someone who has spent her life serving and caring for others. Becky has been courageously fighting Stage IV metastatic breast cancer since 2022. The cancer has spread extensively throughout her brain, and despite years of treatments, procedures, radiation, hospital stays, and more strength than anyone should ever have to summon, her disease has continued to progress. We have now reached a point where our focus is on keeping her comfortable, surrounded by love, and reminded that she is never alone. Becky sleeps much of the day and often struggles to communicate, use her hands, or understand what is happening around her. However, she still recognizes the love people bring into the room. Her smile when someone arrives is still unmistakably Becky. Even now, she often tries to ask how other people are doing—that servant’s heart has never left her. Many people have kindly asked what they can do. One of the most meaningful gifts right now is simply spending time with Becky. Sitting beside her, holding her hand, playing peaceful music, reading to her, sharing a memory, or quietly being present allows her to be surrounded by people who love her. It also gives Curtis time to work, run an errand, care for the children, rest, or simply catch his breath. Please don’t feel pressure to entertain her or keep her awake. Becky may sleep during most or even all of your visit, and that is completely okay. Your quiet presence still matters. Our family’s faith in Jesus Christ and God’s eternal plan continues to carry us. We believe families are forever, and although this road is heartbreaking, we are deeply grateful for every moment we still have with Becky—and for every person willing to help fill those moments with love. Thank you for loving Becky and our family. Showing up and simply sitting beside her is not a small thing. It is one of the greatest gifts you can give us right now.

Special Notes

Spend quiet time with Becky so she has companionship and Curtis can rest, work, run errands, or spend time with the kids. Becky may sleep through much of the visit—that is completely okay. Sit beside her, hold her hand, play quiet music, read to her, or simply be present. No entertaining or conversation is expected.
