She was struck by a car while crossing the street and had to undergo an emergency craniotomy to treat a fractured skull and ruptured brain artery. While the road ahead will be long, Brittany is already showing incredible strength and resilience — she’s meeting every milestone in her recovery with determination. She remains hospitalized in Chicago but is expected to be discharged in the coming days. For the next couple of months, she will continue her recovery with outpatient therapy at Shirly Ryan AbilityLab. Once her brain has shown the necessary signs of healing, she will undergo her second surgery to attach a prosthetic left skull. Given these timelines, Jake and Brittany will not be returning to their home in Sarasota, FL before her second surgery, and will be residing in a rental unit near Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Shirly Ryan AbilityLab. While this tragedy has been unbelievably hard to comprehend, we know that god was watching over her by having this accident take place minutes away from one of the top hospitals and neurosurgeons in the country. We feel even more blessed to know she will be in the hands of a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center in her next phase of healing.
