In Loving Memory of Susan Franklin and Support of Her Caregivers

Story

Dear Friends and Family, As many of you know, our beloved Aunt Susan passed away peacefully at home on Christmas morning, in the loving presence of her sister Pam Franklin, and her daughter Alyssa Franklin-Herron. She bravely battled pancreatic cancer, and while our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she is now at rest. The past year has been an incredibly challenging journey, marked by immense love and unwavering dedication. My Mom/Aunt Pam, selflessly moved in with Aunt Susan to provide 24/7 care to her favorite little sister, navigating countless doctor's appointments, treatments, and the daily complexities of caring for a loved one with advanced illness. Her commitment ensured Aunt Susan was never alone and always felt cherished. When hospice was called in, our cousin Alyssa, showed up with incredible strength. She left her job to ensure she could be by her mother's side around the clock providing love and comfort in those precious last weeks. In addition to the hands-on care provided by my mom/Aunt Pam and Alyssa, Chanda and I were entrusted by Aunt Susan to serve as her Powers of Attorney. We have fulfilled those duties and are now supporting Alyssa in navigating the legal and administrative tasks of settling our Aunt's estate and preparing her home for sale. Our goal is to handle as much of this as we can to spare her the daily stresses of home maintenance and meal planning allowing her to begin adjusting to a new way of life. We are also assisting my Mom/Aunt Pam with our Aunt's final arrangements, and are hoping to help alleviate the practical burdens that often overwhelm families during such a tender time. They poured every ounce of their energy into caring for Aunt Susan, and now they need space and time to heal without worrying about daily logistics. Lastly, and most important, we are honoring Aunt Susan's final wishes. On December 12th, she asked me (Aris) to promise to watch over Alyssa and be strong for my mom (Pam). She knew her passing would be hard on them. It's been hard on us all and we thank you for helping us honor her legacy. We've set up this GiveInKind page to help in three primary ways: 1. Nourishment, Comfort & Care (Digital Gift Cards): Both Pam and Alyssa have specific dietary needs so instead of a traditional meal train, we're collecting gift cards to meal delivery services -DoorDash and UberEats, restaurants- Lulu’s, Yard House, Blue Sushi, Chili’s, Bob Evans, and Olive Garden to name a few, as well as stores for groceries and pantry items - Target & PetSmart for Alyssa AND Walmart for Pam. This will allow them to have food and groceries delivered directly to their doors, whenever they are ready to eat. To offset the continued costs of travelling between Aunt Susan’s home and theirs, we are collecting gas cards to QT. 2. Home Restorations: During the intense period of caregiving, their own homes understandably took a backseat. We want to provide professional deep cleaning for Pam’s home, Alyssa’s home, and Aunt Susan’s home (to prepare it for sale). This will help them reclaim a sense of peace and order in their living spaces. We will also need to hire professional movers as we prepare our Aunt's home to be listed. Funds for these services are being collected via the GoFundMe link. 3. Car Care: My Mom/Aunt Pam inherited Aunt Susan’s car. Understandably, it was not serviced over the last year. It's overdue for much-needed maintenance and detailing. Funds for this service are being collected via the GoFundMe link. Any contribution, big or small, will directly help them navigate this difficult period and give them the vital space to breathe and grieve. We are so grateful for your love, your thoughts, and your support. Thank you for being a part of our community. With love and gratitude, Aris & Chanda
