Love for Baby Lucy

W
Story

Our sweet 1-year-old Lucy and her family have had their world turned upside down in just a matter of days. 💜 Lucy became very ill on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, she was transported via flight for life to Children’s Hospital, where spent 5 days in the PICU and has been moved to the main hospital for the foreseeable future. After days filled with fear, questions, testing, and waiting, we finally have an answer. Lucy has been diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1 (GSD1), a rare inherited disorder caused by a deficiency in the glucose-6-phosphatase enzyme system. This means her little body has difficulty maintaining normal blood sugar levels, and her care and nutritional needs will look very different moving forward. While this diagnosis brings a lot of change and uncertainty, it also brings something we desperately needed: answers. Her medical team now knows what they are treating, and we are incredibly grateful that Lucy is on the right path and receiving the care she needs. She is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another week as her doctors work to stabilize her and prepare Liv and Tyler for the care she will need at home. For Liv and Tyler, life changed overnight. Their focus right now is exactly where it should be on their baby girl. Learning her diagnosis, understanding a completely new way of caring for her, and simply being Mom and Dad through something no parent ever expects to face. When they are finally able to bring Lucy home, we don’t want them to immediately have to jump back into the everyday responsibilities of life. We want to give them the space to adjust, breathe, learn their new normal, and love on their little girl. We are asking our family, friends, and community to surround them with support during this transition. Meals through their Meal Train would be an incredible blessing, whether homemade, delivered, or through a gift card. We also don’t yet know what the future will hold when it comes to medical expenses and ongoing care, so for anyone who feels called to help financially, Venmo contributions are also deeply appreciated. There is absolutely no amount too small, and if you’re unable to give, sharing this post and keeping Lucy, Liv, and Tyler in your thoughts means more than you know. It truly takes a village, and right now we’re asking ours to wrap around this family with as much love and support as we can. 💜 Venmo: @Liv-Slaviero or @Tyler-Duckworth-3 Thank you for loving our Lucy and helping Liv and Tyler navigate a future they never expected, but one they will face together with an entire village standing behind them. 💜

Special Notes

The entire village thanks you!
