Hey friends and family. In November, Duy woke up with lost hearing to his left ear. After what he thought was a really intense case of sinus & ear infection, and getting passed from medical specialist to medical specialist to figure out why he wasn't hearing out of one ear, doctors found a mass and did a biopsy. During Christmas week, Duy was told that unfortunately that it was cancerous. Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is the clinical name. Rare in the U.S. but more common from Southeast Asia. Vietnam being one of the high rates country. Doctor told him that it was a textbook case: Asian male, lost hearing, genetics, asian diet, and attributed it to the EBV virus (the same that causes mono). Through the chaos, he learned that his uncle from Germany also had the same cancer 8-9 years ago and still alive and living well today. This gave him a lot of hope that he too, will beat this cancer!
