Our dear friend and fellow activist Barbara Harvey just lost her dear husband Mike Friedman. Barb and Mike were both lawyers involved with labor rights and human rights. They were active in many organizations fighting for justice, including Jewish Voice for Peace, Democratic Socialist, TDU and others. Barb is facing severe short term memory loss that has been exacerbated by Michael's battle with cancer and recent passing. She can no longer drive or prepare meals. She needs the support of all her friends and all the people she has supported with her legal expertise and friendship for years. We hope to set up a daily visit (or two) with meals (or pick her up to go to a restaurant), groceries (or take her shopping), outings (take her to a protest, the DIA, a concert, a visit to other friends, etc) to keep her engaged and connected. Her son, Daniel, is trying to identify a reliable and appropriate caregiver aid/provider who would come on a daily basis, but that is not yet in place, and even when it is, engagement with friends and social interaction is so vital to her wellbeing. Let's share our love with our dear friend.
Barb needs social interaction and engagement with friends. She also needs food, phone calls (her number is 313-779-9837) and social outings. Barbara is primarily a vegetarian, and needs prepared meals and groceries that are healthy and filled with good fats as she has lost weight. She does eat eggs, fish, and dairy in addition to veggies and fruits. Her short term memory challenges will prevent her from heating up items on the stove and possibly via microwave. We are trying to have friends who will bring meals to her (especially lunch and dinner or brunch and dinner), as well as eat with her. Also, items that she can easily eat on her own (yogurt, nuts, fruits, cheese, crackers, etc) that do not need preparation. Brief daily phone calls to check up on her would be very helpful as well.
