Love for Jawan

Albany, NY

W
Story

Jawan is your typical 4 year old boy. He loved going swimming, playing at parks, going to amusement parks, beaches and exploring. The week of June 22, 2026 he started complaining of headaches. So he was given Tylenol for it. A couple days into these daily headaches it turned into Jawan crying from the pain and he would vomit from the amount of pain. The Tylenol seemed to work as he would act normal after about 30 minutes of taking the Tylenol. Finally it was so bad that my daughter took him to the ER at Ellis Hospital about 4 days into having these headaches. She explained to them he would vomit from the pain and that it was daily, sometimes multiple headaches in a day. They did a chest X-Ray and told her the headaches are from asthma so they prescribed Jawan medicines for him to take for asthma. Jawan was never diagnosed with asthma from his own primary doctor. June 5th my daughter ended up at the ER at Ellis Hospital, She had Jawan with her. As my daughter was waiting to be seen, Jawan started crying of a headache and ended up once again vomiting. So my daughter asked if he could be seen as well, and yet again explained the symptoms he’s had a little over a week. So as my daughter went back to have an X-Ray they took Jawan to have an Catscan done. The doctors came back in with Jawan’s results and said they see a mass in his brain and they have to send my daughter and Jawan to Albany Med. They get to Albany Med and they had to do an MRI. It was then confirmed he has a 3.2 sized tumor in the pons of his brain. The tumor is intertwined in the brain stem. Which is also known as DIPG. There was fluid built up on the brain, which is where the headaches were coming from. So, now he had to have a VP Shunt put in. The fluid was drained and no more headaches. He now has a port for the treatment of cancer. Jawan also had to have a biopsy done of the tumor so we know what genetic markers and cells it’s made of. We were told DIPG is a rare malignant tumor that is usually found in children ages 5-10, There is a 1% chance of survival. There isn’t enough funding for them to research it let alone due to the location of the tumor it is inoperable. It’s a very aggressive cancer and children at most live a year. Sometimes it’s less. Jawan has begun radiation and will start chemotherapy in the next week to hopefully try and shrink the tumor some, and is also on steroids 2 times a day. We were in the hospital for almost 3 weeks and finally got discharged on Saturday July 18th. My grandson is a superhero and a fighter, through all of the surgeries and radiation he still hangs onto his strength and continues to amaze me everyday with his energy. We need a miracle to happen and I wish more people were aware of this type of cancer. I wish to somehow raise enough money to donate to help fund research and find a cure for this evil sickness. In the meantime we need any and all help financially as we are out of work to be by his side and to care for him during this horrific time. Please donate if you can’t, please share, and prayers are always welcome.
