On June 13, 2025, my cousin Jessica rushed her daughter Maddie (5) to the ER for a baseball-sized lump in her groin that had developed in a matter of hours. Jessica had taken Maddie to her pediatrician several times over the past month with multiple concerns that consisted of being pale, easily fatigued, winded, night sweats, and recent infections; all were never addressed and dismissed. When all the testing came that evening in the ER, Maddie needed a blood transfusion because her hemoglobin was 5.4. Her other labs were so abnormal that the ER doctor consulted the pediatric team. That’s when Jessica and Nick were told Maddie most likely has leukemia and they would not be leaving the hospital. The following Monday, Maddie underwent a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, and had a long-term IV placed in her arm. Tuesday, they received the diagnosis of B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, otherwise known as B-ALL. This is a lifelong condition that Maddie faces with the next 2.5 years being the toughest. Maddie has started chemotherapy and will lose her hair over the next several weeks. Maddie will undergo multiple bone marrow biopsies, multiple spinal taps, chemotherapy, as well as anything else that comes up. Maddie is immunocompromised and will remain in isolation while at the hospital and will not be able to return to school next year. She is extremely fragile. Jessica is in the middle of school and will most likely have to leave due to the demands she is now faced with in providing care for Maddie when they get to go home. Meanwhile, bills are piling up at home and they are unsure what insurance will cover at this point. I humbly ask for your help in supporting this family while they going through this challenging time. Even the smallest donations help. Please pray for them. All donated funds will go directly to the Maddie’s Mom, Jessica. HOW TO HELP Many of you have asked how you can help during this challenging time. We've set up this GiveInKind page to provide specific ways you can support our family. Here are a few ways to help: Gofund me: donating to this helps with transportation to and from hospital and doctor visits, medical and house bills since Nick is the only one working at the moment, family outings when we’re able to do them and special things for Madison and Hailey. Words of Encouragement: Your messages of hope and encouragement mean the world to us. Please feel free to leave a note on this page. Gift Cards and wishlist : These are so helpful as we reward Madison for being such an amazing patient after procedures. Also she is not mobile at the moment so things on her wishlist help occupy that down time.
