Aarons post-op recovery

Bend, OR

Story

As most of you know, Aaron has been experiencing pretty severe medical complications since the end of July. He has a hereditary condition called diverticulitis, very rare in people under 40. It is a condition where small pouches (diverticula) in the wall of the large intestine (colon) become inflamed or infected. One of these small pouches (unknown to us) had opened and created a small perforation in his colon. The hole allowed bile and gas to leak into his abdomen causing him excruciating pain starting the path we are on now. Since July he has had two hospital stays, the longest being 7 days. Both of these stays he was being monitored and administered high dose IV antibiotics and pains meds. In August he was given a PICC line to allow him to come home and get IV antibiotics daily at the Bend Cancer Center. The antibiotics kept the infection from progressing but unfortunately did not treat it. Mid September it was decided by his surgical team it was time for surgery. The surgery will be happening on Friday October 3rd in the early morning. This surgery will allow his doctor to clean up "the mess" that has been created by the leak in his colon. The surgery will also remove the infection that has attached to his bladder wall. The anticipated outcome is a bowel resection and ileostomy. Of course this is subject to change but the goal is to fix the immediate needs and go back in 8ish months from now for a second surgery. He has tried his best to be in good spirits but is tired and hungry!

Special Notes

Due to the severity of the surgery we will not be having guests until we get the all clear. Aaron is still highly susceptible to infection and with two large incision sights we want to avoid germs the best we can. Once he is up and moving Im sure some fresh faces will be much appreciated.
