Meal Train for the Charlton Family

Washington, IL

Story

As some of you know, Charlie was diagnosed with Chiari malformation last year. He will be undergoing surgery soon, and our family is coming together to support him during his recovery. To help ease this difficult time, I’ve set up a Meal Train for the family. Providing meals is a simple yet meaningful way to take one worry off their plate as they focus on Charlie’s healing. Thank you so much for your kindness, prayers, and support for Charlie and his family during this time. During surgery they will be out of state for a bit, but will eventually be back home. I think the easiest for them to use would be gift cards because we’re just not sure what address they’ll be at daily. —————————— Chiari decompression surgery is a procedure to relieve pressure on the brain and spinal cord caused by a Chiari malformation. The malformation occurs when part of the skull is too small or misshapen, causing the lower part of the brain (the cerebellum) to be pushed into the spinal canal. The surgery works by creating more space for the brain and allowing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to flow normally. Think of it like loosening the waistband on a pair of pants that are too tight. Halo traction may be used for patients with complex issues at the base of the skull (cranium) and the top of the neck (vertebral column). In these cases, there is often an unstable or abnormal alignment that can lead to compression of the brainstem and spinal cord. Chiari malformations can sometimes occur alongside these more complex spinal conditions.
