From the parents of Alexander: “Our son Alexander was born with a major heart defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries. It wasn’t known until after birth something wasn’t right. Since then, he was airlifted to a children’s hospital and underwent a balloon atrial septostomy, had a stroke, open-heart surgery called arterial switch (which went well until his lungs hemorrhaged after surgery), ECMO, seizures, multiple lung collapses requiring another surgery called a diaphragm plication to get him off the ventilator, and numerous other interventions. He has since been failure to thrive and has had decreased heart function requiring multiple medications to try and help his heart function. He recently went in for a diagnostic heart cath to check numbers and see how well his heart was doing. To everyone’s surprise (medical team included), his heart is way sicker than anyone anticipated. His results showed severe pulmonary hypertension. They also found his only coronary that works has started to narrow. Because of his new and unexpected findings, he needs a higher level of care where they are specialized in heart failure and transplant. This requires us to pack up and move. We are at a loss, but we will move mountains for our kids. We have 2 months, give or take, to get everything situated before his next procedure. This has brought upon so much stress. We have 2 other kids, a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son, who love school and all their friends, so this move is not going to be easy emotionally or financially.” Most recently, Alexander went into Cardiac arrest where Kayla and Michael had to revive him at home in which they were successful prior to first responders arriving. He was then taken by ambulance to St. Josephs. Texas Children’s who was already tasked for his case in a few weeks, took him as an emergency case. A Texas team flew down, loaded up Alexander and Michael, and got him to Texas Children’s where he will now officially begin this new part in his heart journey getting him the level of care he needs. Kayla will be in route to Texas soon and their other 2 kids will go to Texas shortly after where they can all be together as a family on this journey together. We’ve had meals offered to the family but within days they will be in Texas. Gift cards seem as the better alternative as they can easily order meals or DoorDash meals to where ever they are whether Florida or Texas. Thank you kindly for your generous offers, unlimited support and continuous prayers.
