I'm Nicole, my mom Laura is 64 years old and a stay at home mom before this all happened. My dad is a navy man, 66 and spoils her like crazy. They love fishing and the lake. My mom had pneumonia since Christmas and her right lung was filled with fluid. She was on four antibotics. Her 2nd anti she went to urgent care where they took a picture of her lungs. Said they saw a mass, figured it was fluid build up. During April she ended up coughing up blood, returned to urgent care and was told it was likely fluid sacs of blood from the sickness and prescribed another antibiotic. on May 25, she began to get really sleepy- she usually sleeps on the couch because she was coughing too much and didn't want to wake my dad. She ended up falling off the couch and had to be picked back up, she went to sleep. Early memorial day, the 26th, we came downstairs to find her in the same position, she was breathing heavily and wheezing. While my dad cleaned up the living room so the ambluence could come, she would only respond to me in mumbles and sighs. A firetruck and ambo came in, and they tried to make her sit up. She was unresponsive and agitated. Her oxygen saturation was under 60. She was loaded instantly and by 9am we were at the ER. She was so delirious they said she had what was close to co2 poisoning, and was intubated. At 3pm she was transferred to the MICU. By 4 we had found out her lung was failing, and she had Empyema, bronchitis, pneumonia, and copd. It took them 4 hours to drain her lung, with 1 liter and 250cc of liquid. They were worried about a mass in her lung, but they couldn't see what it was with all the fluid. She was given 4 antis and monitored 24/7. Finally she woke up on June 2nd. By June 7th she had her tests done and was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. She had a port put in, and we started her chemo on the 17th. On the 25th she is to get a PET scan to see how far it has spread. She is unable to leave the house, climb steps, or breathe without constant oxygen. She is still feisty, and stubborn. She loves gnomes and beagles and will talk about them for hours. She is also not allowed in public without a mask, and no one is allowed to use her bathroom anymore.
Please no random visitors. She just started, and thus she is not allowed to be in contact with anyone for the first month. She LOVES gnomes, purple, roses and beagles. She also LOVES to get cards. She will probably send you one in return!
