Content warning: mental illness, mention of suicide attempt. We are a queer couple living in Seattle with 2 lovely kitties that are working overtime with their emotional support. We're just over a year into our marriage, for a total of over 7 years together. We both struggle with multiple severe mental illnesses, Karyn has severe ADHD and I have Autism, and I also have a chronic illness, requiring many medications, appointments, specialists, and currently intensive care for both of us. I (Cam) and my wife (Karyn) both got laid off at the end of September. I spent 8 months away from home this year in residential psychiatric treatment following a very serious suicide attempt that had me in the ICU for multiple days. Karyn has spent almost that many months in day programs for mental health during this time also. We are both out of a job now, and unable to secure new ones due to both currently being in higher levels of care. Karyn is receiving severance pay (not much though) until 12/5/25. I am not receiving severance pay until my leave of absence is officially over, at which point we will lose our health insurance. Karyn's total monthly income is barely enough to cover rent and utilities alone. We both are in medical debt and on multiple different payment plans, SNAP benefits are unavailable right now with the government shutdown, and while we do have medicaid coverage in addition to the insurance that remains active while I'm on LOA, it doesn't cover everything. We still have medication copays, appointment copays, the monthly health insurance premium ($600), plus all of the regular life expenses. We are at serious risk of losing our apartment before the end of the year unless we can get 100% rental assistance (currently working on this process.) This will be the second time in my life that I've been legally homeless. I've had zero income since the end of July and have just about used up my entire credit limit, savings, and checking accounts. Any help at all is so greatly appreciated. Karyn's family is helping how they are able, but they can't provide us with everything we need, and my family is, well, not the most supportive... Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and thank you in advance if you are able and willing to help.
Cam's food allergies: Pineapple, salmon Gift cards and/or financial support of any kind is super helpful; -Amazon is where we get most toiletries (major pharmacy desert in Seattle=lots of empty shelves) -QFC/Kroger brand giftcards (most accessible grocery store) -Visa/Mastercard giftcards Shelf-stable / long-lasting foods are ideal, or already prepared meals are helpful If you’re wanting to help with specific items and they involve skin contact (detergents, soaps, etc.) please either ask first or check that they are gentle/sensitive/eczema-friendly. Thanks! Even emotional support or "virtual" body-doubling; prompts/encouragement to get chores/errands done, and other tasks that require executive function Really, we'll take any amount / type of support offered.
