Story

Hi all, As most of you know, my Mom has struggled with some falls, lately, as well as some cognitive confusion, resulting in several hospital stays over the last couple months. I was up in NH for the holidays, and had found her non-responsive on the floor the Saturday morning after Christmas. She's a champ, though, and after a weekend of not knowing if she was going to make it, she pulled through, & was standing (!) (with assistance), & finding some words by Monday morning. It's been an up & down week in the hospital, and there are some definite challenges ahead. She's lived alone for almost 60 years, and as many of you can attest, she is fiercely independent. The goal would be to keep her in her home, and I'm doing what I can to help mitigate bills, and possible home health care options, but in the meantime, there will be at least a week or so of rehab (we're calling it a "step-down" care option). I've also slowly tried to present to her the idea that we might be entering a new phase of needing assistance in a different way, and she's somewhat understanding that things are shifting. It's a difficult time, but she is so incredibly fortunate to have the love and care of such a phenomenal troupe of friends, students, and colleagues. She means the world to so many people, and it's been truly uplifting to know that we can all communicate and help coordinate this next chapter, however it may turn out. I will do my best to keep updates here on the site, and please do send the link along to anyone with concern and care that you might know, and with whom I might not have contact. I can also be reached at 917-771-2771, or [email protected], as my Mom isn't truly functioning with her phone/text/email responses just now. Thank you endlessly for your rallying well wishes. Much love, ~Margot

Special Notes

We've been monitoring her Blood Pressure, along with her Blood Sugar, which tends to run fairly high, with Type II Diabetes. With her love of sweets, gifts of candies, etc, can be hard to turn down, but unfortunately aren't the best options for her right now.
