Nourishing Jessica’s care team (Ashley & Katie)

W
Story

On Friday, June 26th, Jessica fell severely ill and was rushed to the emergency room. Doctors discovered she is in late-stage liver disease (cirrhosis). After receiving 10 blood transfusions and life-saving treatment, Jessica was moved to the ICU, where she is currently being stabilized. How long she’ll remain in the ICU is still unknown, but she is slowly and surely making improvements every day. The current goal is to stabilize enough to be downgraded from the ICU and then explore the possibility of a liver transplant. Doctors have given her a difficult prognosis, with an estimated survival window of around 90 days — a reality that feels impossible to accept, though we are trying our best to face it as a family. This is the beginning of a long road — not just for Jessica, but for her care team. Ashley and Katie have been camped out at the ICU, keeping track of every detail and making sure nothing is missed. Jessica’s nutrition is being carefully managed by the hospital, but we need to make sure Ashley and Katie are being taken care of too, and fed well during all of this. Jessica’s two young daughters, Harper and Emma, are being lovingly cared for by their dad, Kyle, and get to visit their mom regularly, which brings her so much joy. Jessica is currently at MultiCare Auburn Medical Center and does enjoy having visitors. Please know she does get sleepy and may experience some slight confusion at times, so we appreciate your patience and understanding if she’s not quite herself. We’ll use this page to share updates on Jessica’s status and, hopefully, her progress. Thank you all for your love, support, good thoughts, and of course, prayers.
