Our world got rocked 11/22. We woke up to Owen having severe head and neck pain. We took him to the hospital to get it checked out. After further test and imaging, it was determined that Owen had a mass on the right side of his brain. As I write this we are still in shock. Our journey has taken us through two hospitals and 16 hours to get to this point tonight. Children’s Mercy has amitted him into the PICU. Owen was sedated and taken for an MRI around 4:30 today. He was then kept under sedation until his procedure this evening. He underwent a craniotomy to remove the mass from his brain. Everything during the procedure went accordingly. The mass was removed. We will have further imaging tomorrow to further evaluate the next steps. He now lays, sleeping in the PICU as he begins recovering. We have a long road ahead of us. This is just the beginning of this fight. We will overcome it! We will defeat this! Owen Thomas, you are a warrior! 11/23 Owen is having a good morning. He is enjoying sitting up and being able to talk and give his mom and dad a hard time. His giant teddy bear doubles as a pillow, and he green dragon is being pesky and attacking all of his cords. He is eating jello and drinking Gatorade. He had another MRI 11/23 of his head and spine. Neuro and Radiology both agreed that 100% tumor removal, and the brain and spine were clear from any further masses. We will still be awaiting the results from pathology, but this is a great step in the right direction on this journey.
