Story
As some of you may already know, Ellen was recently diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). Her oncologists have been positive about her prognosis, and their ability to remove all of it with two surgeries (no chemo or radiation). The first surgery is to lay the groundwork for a mastectomy, and will take place this Friday, May 2, with an estimated recovery time of five days; Her mastectomy is scheduled for May 14 with an estimated recovery time of three weeks. This site will be the hub for everything, from treatment updates, to ways that you can support Ellen and her family. Some ways to help: • childcare (see childcare tab for more details)* • school drop offs + pick ups • yardwork* • housework* • meals • errands/groceries* • house prep for post-operation • post-operation support • visits* • blessings or prayers* • cards or care packages (see tab above)* • purchasing something from Ellen's wishlist • other?! Please feel free to share this with anyone I may have missed, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Love, Stephanie * These tasks are not limited to the dates that appear on the calendar! If you are able to help with one of them on another day, just text Ellen or Vance to arrange.
Special Notes
• dietary restrictions: no coconut milk or coconut oil; avoids super spicy food; and (mostly) trying to reduce processed sugar intake • preferred mode of communication: text and scheduled in-person visits • special note: If the kids are around, please help maintain their peace with how you talk about all of this. They understand that Ellen will have surgery to get her cancer out, much like they had surgeries to get their tonsils out.
