Support Ian

Johnstown, OH

Story

Ian Downing, beloved husband and father to five children, has lost significant function in his right arm and leg at the age of 33 due to an aggressive brain tumor known as a glioblastoma. He’s choosing to approach his diagnosis with bravery and an optimistic attitude. We’ve created this page so that everyone has the opportunity to show their support for him and receive updates. Please take a moment to click the "Follow Page" button. After graduating from the Ohio State University in 2014, Ian went on to become a civil engineer with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). He has led several multimillion dollar projects involving highways that many people in the greater Columbus area drive on every day. In his free time, he enjoys watching football, playing strategy games, singing in quartets with his brothers and other family members, and spending quality time with his wife, children, and cats. Ian has enriched the lives of many with his deeply caring heart, brilliant mind, and unique brand of humor. We've created this page to provide everyone the opportunity to support him and his family while he is unable to work, experiencing difficulty with everyday tasks, and incurring unexpected expenses. Please consider helping Ian by... 1. Clicking the “Follow” button at the top of this page to receive updates on Ian and his health. 2. Clicking the Give in Kind Calendar on this page and signing up to assist with a few outdoor household chores that are tough for him. 3. Clicking the Donate via Venmo button on this page to send him money for cleaning services, contractor services, groceries, Doordash, entertainment, or anything else (feel free to specify what you're sending money for in the Venmo message!). 4. Clicking the Wishlist button and buying him something on his Amazon wishlist, which includes comfort items, toiletries, and even things like card games and Lego figurines he can use as a way to help him rebuild dexterity in his right hand. 5. Scrolling down to the bottom of this page and writing a short message to brighten his day. Thank you for thinking of Ian during this challenging time.

Special Notes

In respect of Ian's family's privacy, we ask that everyone avoid surprise visits. Please coordinate with Ian or his family ahead of time, and use the Give in Kind Calendar link on this page to plan visits if possible. If you want to send money or a gift card and want to specify its intended purpose (such as groceries, food delivery, entertainment, etc.), please let us know in a short message.
