Update: We all got to go in to see and talk to Katie. She was talking and coherent and got to tell us more details about the crash. She was also fully aware of the arm situation before surgery. Very thankful at the dedication of the surgical team. Also very grateful for the outpouring of love and support. If anyone would like updates, please contact one of us sisters. Katie will need the rest. Mom finally got in a room after 8 hours in the ER. Treating her for pneumonia, but really is pretty darned good. OG post: I haven't gotten to reach out to everyone, personally. Sorry, loves! Katie, Annabelle and her friend, Harper, were in a pretty bad accident today. My niece and her friend, so very thankfully, are not injured after the accident. Only a few scrapes. Katie has no internal injuries or brain injuries, thank goodness! Her left arm was extremely injured, like basically almost ripped off. She just got out of a 6+ hour surgery were they worked their butts off and were able to save her arm, for now. There is a high chance they will still have to amputate if it doesn’t do well in the next 72 hours. Monitoring blood flow to the hand. There are likely lots of other surgeries after if the hand survives. We haven't gotten to see her yet. She was talking and awake before the surgery, so that is good. The icing to the cake is my mom is being admitted for pneumonia. At least they're at the same hospital. 😳 Send love and positive vibes, friends.
