Support for the O’Keefes

Flagstaff, AZ

Story

We are preparing to bring Mike home for hospice care. Our hearts and souls are completely shattered. The tumor is cancer and is growing. The infection has spread to the bone. Please keep us close. This is not the way things were supposed to happen. We do not know how we are going to make it through this. Logistically, resources are finite and hemorrhaging: the family lives in Flagstaff and Mike is being treated 3 hours away. This means, in addition to her daily two-hour there-back commute to be with her husband, Jessie is also driving to and from Flagstaff twice a week to be with her son, who is being cared for by his grandmother and loving friends. Mike's parents are financing flights, hotels, and cars on top of parking, food, and the ever-bubbling, unexpected costs that arise with tragedy. The O'Keefe's are a very small family: Jack does not have any cousins and Mike's only sister is graciously juggling the weight of this trauma without other siblings to lean on. Community support and donations will provide immediate and direct relief for Jessie and Jack as they stay afloat. Hospital bills alone are a natural terror, but the momentary costs are directly competing with their housing and living budget. The family is also open and grateful for creative means of support such as gas or grocery gift cards, frozen meals, and/or the kinds of travel toiletries and supplies utilized during long-term traveling. Please do not be offended if you do not receive a prompt response to your call, text, or gift. The family is overwhelmed with notifications, hospital beeps, and the never-ending pop-ins from hospital staff. Jessie is keeping a diary of these acts of goodwill and they are truly giving her the strength to persevere and maintain a spirit of hope.

Special Notes
