Hello Marge's amazing life long friends and dear family. This is Benjamin, Marge's son, setting up a way to coordinate our support efforts/visits and to share updates. Let's give this a try with the goal of communicating with each other about her condition and coordinating our visits when possible. Phone calls are also very helpful if you are unable to visit. Familiar voices and faces are a welcome distraction and an anchor for Marge as she works to come to terms with her current health situation. In a nutshell: Due to her fall and frailty, Marge is currently unable to live independently as she cannot stand using her own power. She had a head injury and sometimes is confused/worried. Your gentle/simple assurances that she is safe go a long way. Her memory and sense of time/place sometimes wanders. But it does come back. Please just go with the flow of what she is saying in her confusion and refocus her with positive stories of your previous adventures. As anyone would be, Marge is not pleased with her current situation. We all wish her a fast restoration to health and independence. While this nursing home was her first choice, like any patient in her circumstances, Marge is of course unhappy and complains (food, boredom, etc). Please let me know if she says something concerning about her care. Your visits help Marge rest in the knowledge that she is not alone and has caring folks watching over her while at the nursing home. Mom really enjoys visitors - and tends to eat more when presented with her favorite foods. Know you may have to assist with utensils. She is very week. Please do bring in outside food. Here favorites are Tortellini Soup with bread and butter AND cheeseburger Happy Meals with a coke and two ketchup packets, Whatever you bring will be exciting!
