Little paws, Big hopes

W
Story

Recently, I rescued an orphaned baby raccoon that was barely even weaned after its mother was found deceased. It took me three full days to locate a wildlife rehabilitator and safely get the baby to them. During that time, I learned just how overwhelmed rehabbers are right now with the number of orphaned baby raccoons coming in. Many are struggling to keep up and are even having to guide people through temporary care themselves when possible. That experience opened my eyes to how badly more licensed wildlife rehabilitators are needed. My goal is to become properly permitted through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) so I can legally help rescue and rehabilitate orphaned raccoons and give them a safe chance to survive and return to the wild. I am currently raising $500 to cover the cost of permits, supplies, and building a proper enclosure for rehabilitation. One of my biggest concerns is that many people want to help these babies, but if someone is caught caring for a raccoon without the proper permits, they can face charges from the DNR and the animal may be euthanized because it is considered domesticated or improperly handled. I want to do this the right way — legally, safely, and with the animals’ best interest first. Every donation, no matter how small, helps get us one step closer to helping orphaned wildlife that desperately needs it. Even sharing this fundraiser means the world to me and these babies. https://www.freefunder.com/campaign/tiny-paws-big-hope
