Update: A Date (Finally) After a long and honestly very difficult road, I finally have a confirmed surgery date: Wednesday, May 6. I’ll be undergoing a bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy with reconstruction, along with additional procedures to support healing and lymph mapping. My surgical team will be led by Dr. Anne Peled, with Dr. Ziv Peled performing nerve grafting as part of the reconstruction to preserve sensation. The process of getting here has been overwhelming — navigating insurance, fighting for access to the right care, and advocating for outcomes that preserve both function and identity. There were moments where it felt like the system was working against me. But I kept pushing, and I’m really grateful to now be in the hands of a team I trust. The Peleds are truly exceptional in this field. Their work is at the forefront of combining oncologic safety with advanced reconstructive and nerve-preserving techniques — something that is still not widely available. Finding a team with this level of expertise, especially in restoring sensation through nerve grafting, has been incredibly important to me and not easy to access. I feel very fortunate to be under their care. I also want to say I’m sorry if I haven’t been responsive to texts, calls, or emails. I’ve been feeling really defeated and burnt out through all of this, and I’m just starting to come out of that fog. Right now, I’m focusing on preparing my body, my home, and my support system for recovery. I will definitely need help — especially in the first couple of weeks — and I’m so thankful for this community. If you’ve reached out, offered support, or just held me in your thoughts — thank you. Truly. I’ll keep you all posted as things get closer 💛
