Kids in foster care don’t get a lot of choices. This project started with an agency worker. He told us about how someone donated hotel shampoo and soap for kids entering care. He said something I’ll never forget: “My biological children don’t get hotel shampoo. I take them to the store and let them choose what they want. Kids in care need to know they are individuals that are worthy of choosing what they like.” A gift card provides a way for these kids to feel seen and loved.. to have power over small decisions in their lives.
