Love for the Parkers

Warren, MN

Story

James Parker has been battling non hodgkin’s lymphoma since 2019 and later MDS. He has had 3 transplants, many different attempts at chemo and immunotherapy, surgery and it has continued to come back to attack over and over. Most recently dealing with metastatic brain cancer where the tumor along with fluid are growing at a rapid rate. There are no more treatments available to him. Currently steroids are helping to keep him alive. If they were to stop the steroids in the hospital, likely he’d die after a few hours. If they take him home on Hospice continuing the steroids he could maybe have a few weeks of life left while being in the comfort of his own home. There isn’t much room left where fluid hasn’t taken over in his brain so he will likely pass due to brain hemorrhage or seizures. James, with his family, have made the very hard decision to enter into the Hospice stage. Hospice will deliver a hospital bed and other necessities. James will then be brought home on Monday, June 30th by ambulance once it is all set up. What the Parker’s need is round the clock care for James. He cannot see and will be bedridden. He has sundown syndrome so gets very confused late afternoon/early evening. We are looking for people to volunteer to take shifts to help watch and care for James. Could be changing his brief, feeding him, reading to him, talking to him, light cooking and cleaning while watching him, helping with meds at allocated times, keeping him hydrated, emptying his catheter bag, running errands, etc. This might not all fall on your shift, it’s just an idea of what needs might need to be met. Holly just had radiation on 2 brain tumors Thursday. She needs to be able to rest and recover while being able to enjoy the time left with James, not stressing about keeping up with his cares and round the clock needs. The girls are young 24, almost 21 &. 14. They too need to maximize the time visiting and loving what time they have left with their dad. We created this in hopes we can take a big burden off the Parker Family. If we can’t fill the volunteer slots then the Parker’s need to look into private paying for coverage that can range upwards of $30-$40/hour. If they can’t do that the other option is a nursing home facility ranging around $18,000/month. James is no longer working and Holly is on disability due to her cancer. Plus a nursing home or another care unit is not a place James at age 48 wants to be. They could apply for medical assistance to help pay for that but then there would likely be a medical lien put on their home. They would like to avoid that at all costs. Plus James really wants to be home in his house with his family and friends. You don’t have to be trained to help. Hospice and family will show you what you need to know and do. Hospice can come anytime and offers 24/7 phone line. The Parkers do have the Bremer account, and Venmo for anyone who would like to help financially. Meals, cards and any other help in this time of need are all welcome. The Parkers have received so much love and support especially financially over the years from the community they are humbled that there are still people willing to volunteer and help out where needed. Most of all they need prayers for the girls! Also James to enjoy the time left and go soundly and peacefully. If you do cook or bake you can drop off in the garage fridge or freezers without knocking. Items that do not need refrigeration can also be left on the counter in the garage. Monetary donations could be dropped off at any Bremer Bank or mailed to: James & Holly Parker Benefit account 202 W. Johnson Ave Warren MN 56762

Special Notes

There may be times that you sign up for a time slot and find that help is not needed. This is all up in the air and depends on when family are able to help and when visitors are present. Thank you for considering to help out the Parkers!
