Gabby’s Recovery Journey

Gabby and I were in a severe car accident just south of Coos Bay on February 17, 2026 on our way home from a fertility appointment. I was driving, Gabby was the passenger, and our two dogs were in the backseat. Gabby and I were both knocked unconscious, and the vehicle was totaled. Thankfully we all lived! We were both rushed to the local hospital in Coos Bay. I was released from Coos Bay that night while Gabby was transferred to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center RiverBend in Springfield, Oregon due to the severity of her injuries. Once in Springfield, we learned the extent of Gabby’s injuries. Upon arrival at Sacred Heart, Gabby had life saving surgery to reconnect her skull and spine followed by surgery on her left arm to repair a broken humerus, an emergent tracheotomy followed by a tracheotomy surgery and the insertion of a feeding tube in her stomach. Gabby also sustained fractures in her lower back and bleeding throughout her body. She was admitted to the Neuro ICU and stayed there for three weeks. On 3/7 she was moved from the NTICU to the Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit. On 3/10 we were transported by medical flight from the hospital in Springfield, Oregon, to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado. Craig is a specialized rehabilitation hospital focused on brain and spinal cord injuries. On 5/14 we transitioned from acute care at Craig Hospital to post acute care at On With Life in Ankeny, Iowa. I have started this page to assist me in being able to provide updates to anyone and everyone wishing to follow along on our journey. Thank you for your continued love, support, and prayers.
