The One Where Sam Fights Cancer

Story

It’s hard to believe how quickly life can change. Just a few short months ago, Sam was feeling completely fine. Back in February, he started having some inconsistent and relatively minor prostate-related symptoms. Nothing severe, nothing alarming, and certainly nothing that made us think we were facing something serious. Then on April 13th, Sam noticed a swollen lymph node in his groin. By the next day, April 14th, he was in the doctor’s office getting it checked. From there, everything moved incredibly fast. Over the following weeks came ultrasounds, CT scans, bloodwork, referrals, biopsies, and specialist appointments. His PSA continued to rise, imaging showed enlarged lymph nodes in multiple areas, and doctors quickly realized this was not behaving like a typical prostate cancer case. After biopsy and pathology results were finalized, Sam was diagnosed with poorly differentiated prostate carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation — a rare and aggressive form of metastatic prostate cancer. Since then, our lives have become a whirlwind of appointments, scans, referrals, treatment planning, and conversations with specialists. Sam is now being referred to oncology locally, while MD Anderson Cancer Center reviews his case for expedited evaluation and possible clinical trial options. As many of you know, cancer impacts far more than just health. It affects schedules, work, finances, travel, meals, childcare, emotional bandwidth, and everyday life for the entire family. Many friends and family members have asked how they can help, so we created this Give InKind page to help organize support during the weeks and months ahead. Whether it’s meals, prayers, gift cards, help with travel, encouragement, or simply checking in on our family, every act of kindness truly matters more than we can say. We are overwhelmed by the love and support already surrounding our family. Thank you for walking beside us through this incredibly difficult and uncertain season. We truly could not do this alone.
