Our community is heartbroken by the sudden loss of Corporal Brett Martin 51 year old Norton resident and nearly 20-year veteran of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. On the evening of July 27, Brett was on his way to work when he did what so many who knew him say came naturally: he pulled over on I-95 in Boxford to help a stranded motorist. While assisting someone in need, he was struck by a vehicle and later passed away from his injuries. Brett was remembered by his colleagues as dedicated, thoughtful, and courageous a man who showed selflessness, care, and concern for others every day. His fellow officers and the union president described him as a mentor whose final act of kindness was completely in character. “He’d obviously try to stop and help someone out… it’s just his nature to do so.” He leaves behind his wife Jennifer, who described him as a hardworking Dad, brother, and son who always put his family first. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, extended family, friends, and the entire corrections and law enforcement community. In the days and weeks ahead, Jennifer and the kids will be navigating an unimaginable loss. One of the simplest and most meaningful ways we can support them is by making sure they don’t have to worry about meals. We’re organizing a meal train so friends, neighbors, coworkers, and community members can sign up to drop off or deliver a meal to the family. Whether it’s a homemade dinner, takeout from a favorite restaurant. Every contribution helps lighten the load. If you’d like to help, please sign up here: Even a small gesture of food and care can bring comfort during the hardest of times. Let’s come together the way Brett lived by showing up for others when they need it most. Rest easy, Cpl. Martin. Your selflessness will not be forgotten. With love and support, Friends of the Martin Family
