Supporting Dwight Stahl's ALS Journey

Brazoria, TX

W
Story

Dwight Stahl has always been the definition of "showing up." He showed up to the same job for over three decades. He showed up for his church, his family, his community, his kids' Boy Scout troops, his five boys and his grandkids. When he met and married Janice, he became a husband and showed up for her and the 3 more kids (and eventually 9 more grandkids) he added to his family. He is a brother, son, husband, father and Papa to over 20 beloved grandkids! Now, it’s our turn to show up for him. Recently, Dwight was diagnosed with ALS. At 61, he was five years away from a well-earned retirement. ALS not only steals mobility, it steals time and the security of a planned future. As the primary provider, the loss of Dwight’s ability to work has created an immediate financial crossroads. Why we are asking for help now: ALS is a journey that requires preparation before the crisis hits. Janice, who many know as the founder of Travis’ Voice, has spent years turning her own grief into a lifeline for others. Now, she and Dwight need us to be their lifeline. We are raising funds to: Secure the Home: Installing ramps and bathroom modifications while Dwight is still mobile. ($15,250) Ensure Mobility: Starting the search for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and secure a wheelchair to allow for future mobility ($63,750). Bridge the Gap: Offsetting the 5 years of lost income Dwight intended to earn before retirement. He is now only receiving longterm disability at 30% of his average annual income leaving them approximately $2,500 short monthly for bills. Dwight is still the steady, loyal, quiet strength of our family. He is still walking, still talking, and still showing up. By contributing, you are standing beside a man who has never asked for the spotlight, but deserves every bit of support we can offer. He and Janice need help and support with errands, meals, and financial support for some of the equipment and items insurance does not help with.

Special Notes

Dwight has started to have difficulty swallowing, so there are some foods that are harder for him to eat. Please consider doordash or giftcards over sending meals unless you speak with Janice first about current eating abilities.
