Story

On December 5th, 2025, my husband became very sick at work and had to come home. The next day, he visited the doctor and was told he had a virus, but after two days of medicine and rest, he still wasn’t any better. He returned to the doctor and was told again that it was a virus. My husband is a Gulf War veteran and a 100% disabled veteran, but he also worked a full-time job and was the sole breadwinner for our family. On December 10th, I called the VA nurse line and explained what had been happening. The nurse advised me to take him to the VA hospital, where they ran many tests and CT scans. He hadn’t been able to keep food down for a week at this point. The VA hospital found something on the CT scan but couldn’t determine exactly what it was, so they transported him to another hospital for further testing. His red and white blood cell counts were elevated, and they found polyps in his colon. He was released and told to follow up with his primary doctor and a cancer specialist. On December 17th, he saw the cancer specialist, who ran more tests and had to draw blood because his levels were dangerously high, putting him at risk for a heart attack or stroke. He has more scans scheduled and will return to the cancer doctor for follow-up. The specialist suspects a rare blood cancer or possibly myeloid leukemia. This illness has taken a dramatic toll on him physically and mentally, and the stress of not being able to work has been overwhelming for both of us. Thankfully, the VA will cover all medical bills, but we are struggling with living expenses and travel costs for his ongoing care. I am starting this GoFundMe in hopes of easing some of the financial burden while my husband focuses on his health. Any help, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. My husband has given so much of his life to others, and now I want to give him a little bit of peace in his time of need. Thank you so much to anyone who can help. update: on 12/24/2025 we went back to the cancer Dr for a follow-up of his test we were informed that he tested positive for a blood cancer called jak-2 there is no cure for it only treatments to try and keep it at bay they are going to start him on a chemo pill it will be 500 mg twice a day to see how his body reacts to it and if it's going to work we are still trying to learn about this type of cancer as we had never heard of it until now he did test negative as of right now for my Lloyd leukemia but he still has a risk of it developing in the future his biggest risk factors at the moment is developing a blood clot or having a stroke there is a possibility that he could have developed this type of cancer from being in the burn pits in the gulf war from what little bit of research i have done so far he stays very tired and weak as of right now he is still trying to adjust to this new way of life our biggest goal right now is to try to keep him as healthy as possible as he has already lost so much weight because most of the time he is unable to eat or if he does eat To be able to keep his food down.
