With Dudley traveling back and forth to Winston-Salem to be with his mom, dad, and sister, while also needing to be home with his wife and kids, this season has become an unexpected financial strain on their family. A note from Dudley- This past Thursday afternoon, our family received a phone call from the hospital where Mom has been staying. Her doctors wanted to meet with us, so my sister and I met with her medical team and the palliative care team Friday morning. We were given some difficult news. The cancer has spread “far and wide,” as her doctor put it, and surgery is no longer an option. Mom was given the choice of coming home with hospice care or coming home and continuing to fight with chemotherapy, with the hope that treatment will slow the cancer, reduce some of it, and help her feel better. Mom chose to fight. She was able to come home yesterday and is planning to begin chemotherapy this week. Her labs have been good, and right now, there is no way to know exactly how much time we have. It could be weeks, months, or even a year. So much depends on how her body responds to treatment. These have been some incredibly dark and difficult days for our family. But even in the middle of the uncertainty, the Lord has been so good to us. We are trusting Him to watch over Mom, our family, and all of those who love her. We are hoping, praying, and believing for a miracle. As our family walks through this season, we are asking our community to come alongside us in whatever way they can. The simplest things—meals, gas for trips to appointments, groceries, or other everyday needs—can make an enormous difference and allow us to focus our energy on Mom and being together as a family.
