Qese Care

Los Angeles, CA

W
Story

Marqese is an incredible human full of life and love. They are constantly giving of themselves in every way they can! They are creative AF, hardworking, have the kindest heart and are always willing to step up to volunteer and help others. Qese injured their back in a workplace accident taking care of special needs adults. We all know how shitty our medical system is, especially to people of color, so although we have had major set backs and challenges, as a united front with a ferocious team fighting for what they need and deserve, we are finally on the right path to recovery.

Special Notes

Hi Everybody, Thank you so much for stepping up to be a part of Qese’s care and recovery team 💜 It takes a village and this is community care in action. We are so grateful for each and every one of you! In order to keep things streamlined, clear, and keeping Qese calm so they can focus on their recovery, we are setting down some guidelines for care and the recovery to come. Irene is going to be the main point of contact for anything medical related and will be in charge for keeping track of all documentation. If you have something to share or add to the records- please send it to Irene directly at 413-230-9012 Venus will be in charge of volunteer group organization and communications. This will be the place we will all look for updates, signing up for shifts or sharing future needs - like rides to appointments or meal trains. There are a lot of us with different skills and abilities. The purpose of this is to organize ourselves as best as we can behind the scenes so we aren’t bombarding Qese with unnecessary logistics or stressing them out. If you have any volunteer needs or questions, please text Venus directly at 323.561.8000 Here are some general things to know for all volunteers: 1. Daily Meals, please use this link (https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/em479o) 2- When you are with Qese, please be extra mindful of THEIR needs and put yours aside. Meaning: don’t ask them for updates directly - instead check the updates at the top of this website. Do keep them in high spirits and share joyful info on the shenanigans chat. Do things that they need or want to do. Don’t be an extra burden on them or hospital staff (if there's something you think needs to be addressed with staff ask Irene first, it might be in the works). Be extra mindful of their physical state and advocate for their needs- do they need help moving or a massage? Do they need to use the restroom? Have they eaten? Match their energy. 3- Let them sleep and encourage them to - sleep is essential for recovery. The hospital is loud. Anytime they feel sleepy, please be mindful and make yourself busy doing other things that are helpful. Do they need things organized or cleaned? When they are home, are there chores to be done? 4- Group chat rules: on the Qese Care Team Main text thread there are 22+ people who ALL get notified with every new message, like or response. In order to keep things streamlined we are going to keep this main text chat for emergencies or on the ground tactical communications. Before you post on this- ask yourself if this is important to everyone. There will be a separate thread for the fun stuff called Qese's Idiots - Text Adam at (310) 484-8637 if you want to be added to that. Thanks for reading this - we know it is long :/ We appreciate you all so much and want Qese to be back to their full capacities asap!
