It's been about 2 months since the dim lighting in a Hobby Lobby bathroom cast a shadow on my neck. It looked like there was a lump to the right of my throat, and, upon comparing my right side with my left, I confirmed that something didn't feel right. Fast forward through an ENT consult, ultrasound, biopsy, and genome sequencing, I have been diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. I will have a complete Thyroidectomy on May 5 and I will likely need to undergo a radioactive iodine treatment around 6 months later. Having my thyroid removed means I will be on synthetic hormones for the rest of my life and getting the hormone levels adjusted so that my body is functioning properly is a long road in itself. If you pray, I'd appreciate your prayers as we get ready for these big life changes.
I will likely be on a modified diet while I heal, so soft foods will be on the menu for the first week or so. Gift cards are appreciated so that I can find something that I can swallow without much pain. The family will be busy taking care of me, so gift cards to keep them full would be greatly appreciated as well. Any thoughtful ways to support my kids and husband would be a blessing. They are going through this too and it has been stressful to everyone.
