On August 13, Andrew was critically injured in a horrific accident while returning home from the IndyCar race in Portland. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, including diffuse axonal injury, along with significant injuries to his lungs. There were moments in those first days when we simply did not know what the future would hold. But God has been incredibly faithful. Over the past several weeks, we have watched Andrew fight, heal and make progress that we celebrate every single day. He has moved from the Trauma ICU at Blessing Hospital, through progressive care, and now into rehabilitation at RHI in Indianapolis. We know there is still a long road ahead, but we are incredibly grateful to be on that road. And through all of this, something else extraordinary has happened: people have loved Andrew and Natalie incredibly well. Family, friends, the racing community, church communities, coworkers and people from all over the country have prayed, sent messages, brought meals, offered help and asked what they can do. We could never adequately express how much that has meant to all of us. That generosity is really why we created this page. Now that Andrew is at RHI, his days are busy. Physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are hard work, and rest is an important part of his recovery. At the same time, so many people understandably want to come see him. We love that. We want Andrew to see the people who love him, encourage him and remind him of the life and community waiting for him outside these walls. But we also need to protect his therapy schedule, his rest and his time with Natalie and family. So rather than Natalie, Suzanne or someone else trying to coordinate dozens of texts and calls, we’re going to use this page to help organize visits and other ways people can support Andrew and Natalie. If you would like to visit, please choose one of the available times on the calendar. We ask that you not come to RHI without a scheduled time, simply because Andrew may be in therapy, sleeping, receiving care or just need some quiet. Please also understand that there may be days when we have to change or cancel a visit. Recovery from a traumatic brain injury doesn’t always follow a predictable schedule. Some days Andrew has more energy than others, and his healing has to come first. Most importantly, please keep praying. Pray for Andrew’s brain to continue healing and rebuilding pathways. Pray for strength and movement throughout his body. Pray for his speech, cognition and independence to continue returning. Pray for endurance as he works through therapy. Pray for Natalie as she walks every step of this journey beside him. We believe we are watching a miracle unfold right in front of us. There is still a lot of road ahead, but we are walking it with faith, hope and an extraordinary community surrounding Andrew and Natalie. Thank you for loving them so well. Thank you for walking with us. And thank you for continuing to pray. God is faithful.
Andrew’s mornings are dedicated to rehabilitation and therapy. He is working incredibly hard with his physical, occupational and speech therapists, and we want to protect that time and allow him to give them his full energy and attention. For that reason, we strongly prefer visits in the afternoon and early evening whenever possible. Please use the calendar to schedule your visit rather than stopping by unexpectedly. Andrew’s schedule and energy level can change from day to day, so there may occasionally be times when we need to adjust or cancel a visit. We are incredibly grateful that so many people love Andrew and want to encourage him. Seeing familiar faces is good for him—we just want to balance that encouragement with the rest and rehabilitation his brain and body need right now. Thank you for helping us make Andrew’s healing the priority. And, as always, thank you for your prayers.
