My name is Stacy Schmitz, and I am currently fighting Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. My cancer has spread to my hips, spine, and pelvis, and it continues to grow in my spine. Every day is a battle — not just emotionally, but physically. The treatments that are keeping me alive are also incredibly hard on my body. The pain, fatigue, and side effects make working and even completing normal daily tasks extremely difficult. Some days, just getting out of bed feels like a victory. In 2025, my life changed even more when I was involved in a horrific head-on collision. The impact was severe and left me dealing with additional physical trauma while already fighting cancer. Recovering from that accident while undergoing cancer treatment has taken an enormous toll on my body and strength. On top of everything, I am also living with an underlying liver disease, which complicates treatment options and adds another layer of medical monitoring and stress. I travel nearly two hours each way for specialist appointments one to three times every month. The cost of travel, treatments, medications, and daily living expenses continues to grow — especially as working consistently has become so difficult due to pain and ongoing care.
