Many hands make light work ... and many loving hands can help Courtney and Chris feel supported along the road ahead. As many of you know, Courtney has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and will soon begin Kinsunla therapy. While there is much hope surrounding her treatment, this diagnosis has also brought new appointments, responsibilities and adjustments to everyday life. Chris has lovingly taken on the role of Courtney’s primary care partner while continuing to manage work, home and other important family responsibilities. Even the most devoted caregiver has only so much time and energy, and we would love to surround both Courtney and Chris with a community of practical, dependable support. This page is a place where friends and loved ones can help in manageable ways—providing a meal, running an errand, offering companionship, helping around the house, or contributing toward a needed service. No single person has to do something enormous. Each small act of care lightens the load and reminds Courtney and Chris that they do not have to walk this road alone. Because this illness is more of a marathon than a sprint, the way we support and care for them may look a little different... less a meal train and more of a customized "Uber of Support" situation. Right now, checking in with Courtney for a conversation or inviting her, or her and Chris, to do something fun if you're local would be appreciated. As would things like a cleaning service, gift cards to a meal delivery service (Modify Health has been recommended) that would give them access to healthy meals that Chris doesn't have to cook each night would lighten the load. And your ideas are welcome. Use this as a launch pad and a way to keep up with specific ways you can help as they come up. In the meantime, please text Courtney to say hi or reach out to her on Facebook. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me (Dawn) or one of the other organizers. Thank you for being one of the helping hands holding them close.
Although, she has felt the need to retire from her demanding job as a school psychologist, Courtney remains active and independent. She is still driving, enjoying familiar activities, and participating fully in her daily life. Our goal is not to take over the things she can and wants to do, but to ease some of the unnecessary demands on Courtney and Chris. A little practical help now can give Courtney more time and energy to focus on her treatment, her healthy, and the people, dogs, and activities that bring her joy. With regard to dietary restrictions, her care team encourages a Mediterranean diet.
