I always knew the clunking sound coming from my hips was weird. I also thought having back pain for twenty years (with no origin) was a little suspect. The good news is that I finally have the right diagnosis: bilateral hip dysplasia, where the ball doesn't fit into the socket in either of my hip joints. The bad news is that I have a very gnarly surgery in 6 days that I haven't had much time to prepare for, with a six-month recovery ahead of me. I'll be confined to bed for at least the first month, and am hoping to only need crutches for a couple of months after that. During that time, I won't have any income, as all of my work was physically demanding. My sweet boyfriend will be taking care of me, but it's too much for one person, and I'd like to lighten his load as much as possible.
