At 10:00pm that night, we got to Presbyterian Hospital - Main. Being 28 weeks pregnant, we both figured it was bad cramps or gas. Turns out, she had been battling thru debilitating contractions for 7+ hours and was 4cm dilated. Around midnight on Thursday (Friday morning) they induced my 28 week pregnant wife and started shooting drugs into her to try to slow the contractions while simultaneously giving her drugs to help our little nuggets brain and lungs developed, fast. We stayed in that pattern for 48 hours, hoping the contractions slowed, which they did. They went from 2 minutes apart on Thursday to about 8-10 minutes apart thru Saturday. Then came yesterday, Sunday, February 16th. Day 4 Jess was taken off the drugs and epidural. She was able to get a shower that night, and then they gave her an Ambien to sleep, since she only had about 5 hours total the previous 3 days. She’d never had an Ambien, so we knew it would knock her out. Seemed to be working. Then the contractions came back and were so painful, they woke her up every time she fell asleep. For a lot of the day, the contractions were about 10-15 minutes apart. Then got down to 5-8 minutes apart which was scary, but then there was a 35 break with no contraction. Our little guy’s heart was beating like a drum! Saturday he was sitting around 130 BPM with kicks up to 145 BPM or so and occasionally ramping up to 160 BMP every now and again. All that without any significant dips, which is AWESOME and recognizable of a 32 week or older baby. So we were cautiously optimistic for our little guy Jess was REALLY sore and achy from having to lay on that shit bed for 4 days only getting up like 3 total times and sleeping about 6 hours total. Every day he stayed in her belly was a big victory. So now we just needed to keep stacking days, keep stacking wins. I found out that things can change fast in the hospital. Sunday Night around 10:30pm Jess’s contractions were happening significantly closer together and were causing her a ton of pain so the doctor decided to give Jess her 2nd epidural/round of drugs in two days. But the 2nd epidural left a ‘hot spot’, which meant a section of jess’s right abdomen wasn't numb. This could be it, or the contractions could slow back down, but it’s not looking like it. Dr checked Jess again and she was 5cm and possibly 6cm. That painfully progressed until 5:40am Monday, February 17. Then it happened. I became a Dad and Jessica Crowe became a Mom. Ive never been more proud of anybody in my life than I am of my wife. She was in absolute beast mode for 5 days. She overcame so many obsticles while she was in here. It was awesome and inspiring. Now, we Gotta get Sully’s lungs nice and strong in the NICU over the next few months, which is going to be rough, but this staff Is the real deal. EVERY. SINGLE. NURSE. AND. DOCTOR. We saw was absolutely incredible and I have no doubt the NICU staff at Presby will be the same. True heroes. So proud to introduce our little guy: Sully Crowe Gresham 3lb 8oz We already love him so much.
