Supporting our Teacher

Story

Dear Sangha Friends, Our beloved teacher, Flint, is walking through a tender season—one that invites us, as his extended community, to meet him with the same presence and compassion he has so generously offered to each of us. As many of you know, Flint and his partner, Erin, recently relocated from their home in Hawaii to New Mexico, following Erin’s diagnosis with Lewy Body Dementia. This transition has been layered with emotion, care, and vulnerability. Recently, Flint himself was hospitalized with cardiac issues. After a thorough evaluation, he has returned home and is returning to Life as it is. He remains optimistic about his recovery, but has been advised to rest deeply and refrain from taking on new responsibilities for now. This page is a quiet container—a place where we, as his wider sangha, can coordinate our love and support for him. Whether through sending a note, making a small offering, or simply holding space, this is a way for us to care for Flint and Erin without requiring anything in return. Every small gesture helps surround them with steadiness, love, and connection—qualities we’ve all experienced in Flint’s presence. In our shared practice, we are continually invited to hold both the intimacy of our humanness and the vastness of our roles. As Flint often reminds us, we are growing up and waking up. There is no perfect teacher, only deepening humility. True leadership, as we have seen reflected in his own life, allows room for limitation, mystery, and becoming. And so, just as he has modeled for us again and again, we hold this moment as part of the whole path—alive with learning, with tenderness, and with transformation.

Special Notes

Suggested Giving Categories Messages of Care Share a short note of love, gratitude, or encouragement. These words can be a balm—read when the time is right, and held like a warm hand in a quiet moment. (Can be public or private.) Meal Support (local only, or via delivery service) If you’re nearby in New Mexico, you may be able to drop off a home-cooked meal or arrange delivery. For long-distance friends, consider sending a gift card for a meal delivery service like DoorDash or Instacart. Practical Help or Errands Once they are more settled, Flint and Erin may need help with occasional shopping, tech support, or home tasks. Check back for updates—or let us know what you’d be open to offering. Financial Support This is a gentle, no-obligation way to support unexpected medical costs, travel expenses, or caregiver resources. Any funds offered will go directly to Flint and Erin. Ongoing Support We’re creating this as a space for ongoing, long-term care, not just a one-time gesture. You are welcome to return to this page as often as you feel called to contribute in any way.
