Surrounding Makena, Bryce & Family

Many of you know Makena, Bryce, and her family well. Others may be hearing about what has happened for the first time. We created this page so that everyone who loves Makena, Bryce, and her family has a place to stay connected, offer support, and help carry some of the practical things that have suddenly been placed on her shoulders. REMEMBERING KATHY Twenty years ago, Kathy was diagnosed with cancer. She fought it, beat it, and was blessed with another twenty years with the people she loved most. Earlier this year, the cancer returned aggressively. Kathy faced it with the same strength, grace, and determination she had shown twenty years before. Sadly, she passed away in mid-September, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply. Makena is now navigating the loss of her mom alongside her husband, Bryce. In addition to the heartbreak of losing her mom, Makena is also stepping into responsibilities that her mom had carried for many years. Makena's dad, Mike, suffered a stroke in 2012 and requires full-time care in a residential facility. Kathy was his fiercest advocate. She remained deeply involved in his care and was his primary means of transportation outside of his facility. With Kathy's passing, many of those responsibilities now fall to Makena — at a time when she is also grieving the loss of her mom. Makena and Bryce have family and friends who love them deeply, but much of their support system lives far away. This page is simply one way to bring that community a little closer. HOW YOU CAN HELP There is no one right way to support someone through a loss. A meal, a thoughtful message, a prayer, or simply knowing that people are thinking of them can mean a great deal.
