Special Notes

DINNERS - They prefer Mexican, Italian, American, and Chinese dishes. They eat a lot of chicken, but also enjoy beef and pork. Easy meals like frozen pizzas or other store bought freezer meals are ideal and easy for James to make quick. Please kindly avoid seafood and dishes with high heat spices. Crockpot meals are easy for James to toss in as well. Those can be dropped off anytime prior to the the designated sign up day. Just send a message to let them know. DROP OFF: Please drop off the meal items in the cooler outside their front door between 4-6pm on your assigned day. Please leave everything in disposable containers that don't need to be returned. The house has a wheelchair ramp so should be easy to find. They have a ring camera so they will know when the meal is delivered and bring it in promptly. Also leave some kind words --- Leah will love to hear them all!!! GIFT CARDS: If cooking isn't your cup of tea you could provide a gift card to a local restaurant, Uber Eats or Door Dash. This will allow them to have lots of food options at their fingertips. LUNCHES - Our idea is to have lunch-type items dropped off a few days when Leah is inpatient at the hospital for the 4-5 days during week 4 and week 5 of her treatment cycles as well as during her combo chemo treatment in week 1. Between these and dinner leftovers they should have lots of meal options for themselves and caregivers. Please consider items such as lunchmeat, bread/rolls/buns, salads, fruit, chips, frozen pizzas, lunchables, fruit snacks ect. Please drop off the lunch in the cooler by noon on the day you signed up. Again, please use disposable containers that don't need to be returned. The house has a wheelchair ramp so should be easy to find. They have a ring camera so they will know when the meal is delivered and bring it in promptly. Also leave some kind words --- Leah will love to hear them all!!! It’s best to stay away from highly refined, processed food. Avoid fried foods that contain a lot of hydrogenated oils. Since people with cancer often have compromised immune systems, consider skipping foods that carry the risk of foodborne illnesses, including: -Lightly cooked or raw fish, such as sushi -Soft-cooked eggs or foods that contain raw eggs, such as homemade mayonnaise -Unpasteurized cheeses and dairy products -Unwashed fruits or vegetables VISITS - Leah will be inpatient for long stretches of time. 4-5 days each. She would love visitors. If you sign up -- someone will message you with room information. Same rules apply as Covid. Please keep her healthy. It is literally life or death for her. The hospital will have to cancel visits on short notice but someone will notify you, if her blood counts are low and it is not safe for visitors. Healthy children are welcome to come too. We will do 3 hour blocks of time. You do not have to stay for the whole time. Times not on the calendar are being saved for her children.
